In Brazil wind energy is cheaper than natural gas

For the first time in history, the price of 1 MWh produced by a wind energy power plant in Brazil is lower than the one produced by a natural gas power plant. That means that today wind energy is the cheapest one (and Brazil is a land very rich in natural gas): in a invitation for bids to build power plants of 3.9 GW, the wind energy won contracts for 1.9 GW.

The price of a MWh dropped of 30 dollars in two years: this has been caused by the decreased price of turbines and the strength of Real (the Brazilian currency). Hamilton Moss De Souza, the department of energy development executive with the Brazilian Ministry, claimed that Brazil is going to reconsider the forecast about the growing of the wind energy: «Through competition we lowed the: is a basic economical law».
